Why I Donate All My Book Profits to the Wounded Warrior Project

Why Donate ALL Book Profits to the WWP?

Ever since the publication of It Worked For Me!, people have occasionally asked why I chose to donate all the book profits to the Wounded Warrior Project.

It’s a fair question, especially considering that several excellent charitable programs exist that support our veteran heroes.

A Personal Connection to Post-9/11 Veterans and The Wounded Warrior Project

The uniqueness of WWP is that its focus is on Post-9/11 wounded, ill, or injured veterans and their families, who never pay a penny for the services and support. Although my family, including my father, had numerous aunts and uncles serving in World War II, that was generations ago.

Everyone knows where they were on 9/11. I had just walked into an ophthalmologist’s office with my Aunt Marcia and literally watched the second plane hit the tower at 9:03 a.m. Thus, WWP’s commitment to post-9/11 veterans resonates deeply with me.

Seven years prior to 9/11, my then fifteen-year-old IT-based computer server building company transitioned into the video surveillance space, delivering over a quarter-million IT-quality recording devices that captured surveillance on more than four million cameras at the most secure sites and coolest companies in ninety-one countries around the world.

From Tech Entrepreneur to Military Supporter

Yet, nothing offered more satisfaction than those installations at our Armed Forces and Government locations – places such as the Pentagon, the US Capitol, the US Navy, the US Air Force, and US Marines military bases, Homeland Security, the Federal Reserve, US Border Patrol, US Customs, US Veteran Affairs facilities, the US Treasury, and Arlington National Cemetery.

My entire company took great pride in knowing where our solutions were being installed. Personally, I found that all these systems being deployed in those military-based locations offered me a sense of inner peace, reflecting our commitment to “protecting those who are protecting us.”

It became my Zen, my sense of purpose. And it was not just my Zen; it was shared by all of us. Everyone knew someone within or outside their family who was negatively affected by the terrorist acts on September 11, 2001.

Life has been good for my family. We are pleased to donate the proceeds to help those in need, and what better cause than to support our veterans? If promoting WWP on the book drives more people to buy the book, nothing would make us happier!

We hope to make even a minimal impact on the warriors and families that the Wounded Warrior Project serves.

Turning Book Sales into Impact for Heroes

Every dollar that we can drive through WWP is helping someone; we hope to add over $100,000 of those dollars over the next few years, all based on the sales of It Worked For Me!

Anything we can do to help these heroes lead a more normal life is our reward.

A few years ago, while COVID-19 was running roughshod over our everyday lives, my wife, Joanne, and I were able to arrange for a taco truck to deliver lunches to the ninety ICU doctors and nurses at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, Illinois.

Honoring Service During COVID and Beyond

This Veterans Administration facility was among those where my company recorded video surveillance in the United States. Wearing masks and hospital gowns, Joanne and I personally served the lunches, thanking each nurse and doctor for their commitment and service.

Sadly, Mr. Lovell passed away in early August of this year at age 97. We did have the chance to meet him on several occasions. His son, Jay, is a gourmet chef and had a restaurant, “Lovell’s” in Lake Forest, close to our family home. We ate there with friends regularly, and Captain Lovell was often in attendance.

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes.

Every dollar raised through It Worked For Me! sales goes toward helping post-9/11 veterans lead fuller, healthier lives. Whether through WWP’s mental health programs, physical recovery services, or family support initiatives, the goal is simple: protect those who have protected us.
